The Plight of the Slow Loris...

The reason I am doing this post is because I have recently watched a documentry called Jungle Gremlins of Java, it was a real eye opener! You should see it too.

The slow loris in Indonesia is in serious danger of extinction....
....the greatest threat to its survival is the illegal trade.

Its brown eyes and soft fur makes this small nocturnal primate highly prized as a pet and the victim of an online craze created by videos on YouTube.

Please don't watch these videos and encourage this trade to continue.... Think about the slow loris!

Thousands of slow lorises are captured from the wild and illegally sold on the street or in animal markets (crammed in small boxes).

The lorises' teeth are clipped off by the traders to make them easy to handle, resulting in the death of many of them from blood loss or infection before they are sold!

International Rescue runs the only slow loris rescue and rehabilitation centre in Indonesia.  At the facility in Ciapus, Java they provide specialist treatment and care for slow lorises confiscated from the markets or surrendered by their owners.

Little Lilly...

On Thursday 8th May 2014, I rescued a little beagle puppy who is now called Lilly and she was going to be put to sleep as she has a fractured bone in her back leg!

I know you all must be wondering why the previous owners did not consider the option to bandage the leg and cage rest her for 4 weeks, this is because they were puppy breeders who wanted to make money and make it quick and did not want to take the responsibility of her.

"I HATE PUPPY FARMS"

Well, how did she fracture the bone in the first place??? We may never really know how it happened but she could have been dropped or stepped on.

Feeling sorry for this puppy, my heart melted I had to take her on! I'm sure you would too if you were in my place, right?

"Would you leave her with these people, who knows what they would have done to her?"

When she first arrived into my home...she was scared and trembling in fear but...soon she accepted all the love that was poured on her and that her life has taken a turn for the better. A few hours later she was waggin' her tail like a normal puppy!

"Saving just one puppy won't change the world but it will change the world for that one puppy."

Please help! I know you CAN because you have a BIG heart like me! There is a puppy out there for everyone...waiting.........and waiting...for...you!!!

If this story has touched your HEART then Please share Lilly's story and keep an eye out for her posts,
Thanks Sharmin xx

Do you take your cat outside for walks? Have you ever tried it and if yes did you face any problems?

Let me know maybe I can help?
We can have a cat to cat discussion!

The Tiger!!!

We have lost 97% of wild tigers in just over a century! They are vulnerable to extinction as few as 3,200 exist in the wild today.

There are many threats to the tiger...
Habitat loss
Poachers
Growing human population!

For more information please go to...

...AND SAVE THE TIGER!!

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE SILKY SIFAKA?

Silky sifaka (Propithecus candidus)

Sadly the people in Madagascar see wild lemur meat as a DELICACY!

There are roughly 250 mature individuals remain in the wild, the Silky sifaka is one of the three rarest lemurs in Madagascar.

Their habitat is being destroyed, the Rosewood trees are cut down as they are very valuable and the Silky sifaka's are declining!

The Silky's are locally known as the "ghosts of the forest" in Madagascar and unless hunting and habitat destruction stops then the Silky's will truly be a ghost...

The Red Panda - Under Threat!

The Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens)

The Red Panda has evolved to feed almost exclusively on bamboo. Individuals must spend a great deal of time eating just to maintain their bodyweight.

Female Red Panda's have been known to eat up to 200,000 bamboo leaves in a single day!

Sadly, Red Panda's are declining as a result of deforestation, increased agriculture, hunting and pressure from growing human populations.

The Red Pandas are being hunted by humans for their fur (to make hats) and they are also killed when caught in traps meant for other animals such as deer.

The Red Panda's biggest threat is humans!!!!

Their habitat is being cut down for wood, which is used as fuel. Increased agriculture means farmers need more land for their animals so they are clearing the land.

DID YOU KNOW THAT SPIX MACAW'S EXISTED?

The Spix Macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii)

The Spix macaw is one of the worlds rarest birds, extinct in the wild and now may only be available in captivity! Most birds in captivity are currently at Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation who have succeeded breeding them.

But can the species make a come back in the wild?
